BEFC 1 v Stoneds 3! Report from Keith

Oh well, BEFC 'snatched defeat' from the 'jaws of victory' yet again! - another match I think we 'could' have won!

Check out Blip Pilots match report on TML website - ( By the way Blip - I think the third goal was the one from a corner which "I didn't quite get to" before the head of a Stoned - infact I think he 'headed' my hand - which accounts for the nice bruise!)

Anyway, BEFC - Man of the Match ...... goes to ....... Mark! For his commanding performance in midfield! (note: also good performances by Tetsu & Gerard upon their return to the team)

BEFC 1 - 1 Dutch Embassy.... Report from Simon Collier

Deserved point for BEFC on Saturday, and we should probably have won it at the end. We took a full squad of 16, first opportunity for me to see players like Will and Tony, both of whom put in solid performances in the spine of the team. A good, committed debut from Takashi the Fireman too. After a balanced and goalless first 40 minutes we went 1-0 down early in the second half to a good move from the Dutch, their captain (I think) nodding in at the far post. BEFC responded well, Simon Woolhouse hitting a magnificent 25-yard curling free kick into the far top corner to equalise, and the Embassy finishing much the stronger of the two teams. Silvano hit the post after a tremendous solo run, and a number of other chances were somehow not taken.

MAN OF THE MATCH:
Despite showing the effects of several nights of hitting the town with a visiting mate, Tim Letheren led the defence impressively and limited the Dutch to their one scoring chance.

As for the Embassies World Cup on the Sunday, we failed to qualify for the later stages on goal difference after drawing one and winning two. Bit frustrating.

BEFC narrowly beaten by the League leaders...

The BEFC - currently bottom of the league - put up a great fight against top-of-the league Swiss Kickers in their league encounter which ended 2-1 in favour of the Swiss. Read the TML match report here.

Briefly, from Keith:
"Remember the Alamo!? In Saturdays Metropolis League version - the Mexican's only just won!!.... or I should say the Swiss!!! The heroic "Texans" (BEFC) held out against 'superior forces' until the dying minutes!

A tremendous all round effort by all those concerned - led by the example of Colonel "Biffa" Travis, Tim "Crockett" and Chris "Bowie" Allan! When "Crockett" scored! - the look of amazement on the faces of the Swiss was equal to ours!!

I think we'd have to say that this must rank as one of the all time best performances by BEFC, especially when we consider they beat us a few months ago 11-0!

Note: only "re-enforcements" (sub) we had was Tetsu who came unexpectedly after work for last part of second half - good to see him back after injury!"

Check out the current league standings here.

BEFC beats BFC in the Quarter Finals!

It's always a special occasion when we manage to beat our arch-rivals BFC, but the victory is especially sweet when coming back from a two goal deficit to win 3-2 in the dying seconds of the quarter-finals of the League Cup.

BEFC starts new season in style

2004 is a an all-change year for the BEFC as we are have switched from playing in Van's IFFL to the newly formed Tokyo Metropolis League (TML) in their 2nd division. Two games early in the season has already netted us 6 points - 3-0 over Shane FC and 3-1 over the Geckoes - put us at the top of the table at the end of January. Long way to go but a good start nonetheless.

Giles shown some diligence by putting together a match report for the WS Geckoes game. Read it here.

2003 AGM

This year's AGM was quite possibly the best ever. Rob's 'ever-reliable-former-assistant' Aso-san came through for us on a tabehoudai/nomihoudai deal at Erawan (Thai) in Roppongi so good that more than 30 people turned up for the event. People I've never even seen before turned up to celebrate the end of a pretty decent season for our little club. In the end we finished in 6th place - one higher than our rivals BFC.

This years top award - Player of the Year - went to Tim Williams. Here are some photos from the event:

Happy Holidays!

BEFC lose to FC Sala but pick up points elsewhere

It's been an interesting few weeks in the league where we have had to forfeits in our favour (courtesy of Kanto Celts and Aardvark) thus netting us some valuable league points. We did lose to Highland Games champions FC Sala though leaving us firmly mid-table with 4 "wins" and 4 losses. Next up is the Swiss Kickers - the only undefeated team this year - on 26 Nov.
